Pack/case quantity

This rule addresses predefined trade item groupings with predefined content. A change to the predefined number of trade items contained in a pack or case (i.e. trade item grouping) requires assignment of a new GTIN to the changed level and all impacted levels above. A change to the quantity of cases in a pre-defined pallet configuration requires assignment of a new GTIN.
Examples of pack/case quantity changes
- A case configuration changes from containing 9 trade items to containing 12 trade items, the case needs to be uniquely identified.
- A pallet configuration changes from containing 12 cases to containing 16 cases, the pallet needs to be uniquely identified.
Examples not considered pack/case quantity changes
- A new or additional pallet layout is offered. (This would be considered a new product)
- The material type (cardboard or plastic sleeve) of the case or pallet configuration changes, and there are no dimensional changes exceeding 20%.
