The message function coded, is a critical data element in this segment. It applies to all data indicated in the message. The following definitions apply for the restricted codes:

4 = Change - Message containing data (e.g. line items) to be changed in a previously sent Payroll Deductions Advice message.

9  = Original - The original transmission of a Payroll Deductions Advice.

31 = Copy - Indicates that the message is a copy of an original Payroll Deductions Advice message that has been sent, e.g. for action or information.
